Woongjin Honey & Red Ginseng Drink

$2.99 for 1.5l @ Boo Han Market

As most folks know, I'm a huge fan of anything Asian.  Whether it be food, entertainment or females, chances are that if it's Asian, I'll dig it.  I've purchased a multitude of beverages from places like Uwajimaya, Boo Han Market and Pal-Do World Some have been outstanding (Pocari Sweat, Kaisi Jasmine Tea), some have been all right (F&B Tahiti Kiwi, Dongwon Ume Plum juice) some have been interesting (F&B Aloe Juice, Woongjin Morning Rice)...

And then there's this stuff.  Here's how my first (and last) four tastes went:

    First sip: "Huh.  Interesting."

Second sip:  "I...I just don't know."

Third sip:  "It's not getting any better."

    Fourth sip:  "Yeah, this sucks."

The elapsed time for the four drinks was probably about five minutes, so it's not like I was rushing through this or anything.  I really, really tried to give the drink a fair shake, but its taste just totally clashed with my palate.  What does it taste like?  Imagine taking a big swig of honey (yes, it's that sweet) with the lingering aftertaste of bitter dirt from the ginseng.  Ugh.  Despite spending hard-earned tip money on this cold beverage, I poured the whole thing out (minus four drinks) and promptly filled it with tap water.  Hey, I always recycle my bottles.

In defense of Woongjin, their website sez that their beverages are "developed with natural life-strength based on the eastern philosophy."  No complaints there.  I'm sure the stuff is super-good for you, but I'd rather drink something that's good for me and tastes great, too.  Better luck next time, I guess.
